Glamping in British Columbia: A First-Timer's Guide

British Columbia is one of the most spectacular places in the world to sleep under the stars — without giving up a hot shower, a proper bed, or a gourmet dinner. If you’re considering your first luxury glamping trip in BC, here’s everything you need to know to plan it well.

What exactly is glamping?

Glamping — “glamorous camping” — keeps the magic of being outdoors (the quiet, the views, the campfire) while replacing the discomfort with real beds, private bathrooms, climate control, and thoughtful design. Think of it as a boutique hotel room that happens to sit in a forest, beside a lake, or under a mountain range.

At Blue Horizon, every tent includes a private en-suite bathroom, premium bedding, and heating and cooling — so the only thing roughing it is the scenery.

When to go

BC’s landscapes shift dramatically through the year:

  • Late spring (May–June): Wildflowers, rushing rivers, and fewer crowds.
  • Summer (July–August): Long golden evenings — peak season for hiking and kayaking.
  • Autumn (September–October): Crisp air, changing colours, and some of the best stargazing.
  • Winter: Quiet, snow-blanketed seclusion for those who want a true escape.

What’s usually included

A great glamping stay is more than a place to sleep. Look for:

  • Guided outdoor activities — hiking, kayaking, and wildlife viewing
  • On-site gourmet dining made from local ingredients
  • Wellness touches like yoga decks and bonfire evenings
  • Genuine privacy — low-density sites where tents aren’t stacked on top of each other

A few first-timer tips

  1. Layer your clothing. Mountain evenings cool down fast, even in summer.
  2. Book activities ahead. Guided experiences fill up in peak season.
  3. Leave room to do nothing. The best part of glamping is often the slow morning with coffee and a view.
